Trade Balance क्या है?

Trade balance = Exports - Imports। अगर यह positive है, देश का "trade surplus" है। अगर negative, "trade deficit" है। US historically trade deficit में है, China, Germany, Japan trade surplus में हैं। Trade balance goods पर based है; services trade भी महत्वपूर्ण है लेकिन अलग reported होती है। Combined goods + services = current account का main component। Monthly release होता है, typical 45-60 दिनों की lag के साथ। US BEA releases, India में DGCI&S।

Trade Balance और Forex

Exchange rate effects: (1) Trade surplus = foreign buyers की domestic currency demand = currency strong। (2) Trade deficit = domestic importers की foreign currency demand = domestic currency weak। (3) Long-term structural deficits currencies को weaken करते हैं (US is exception due to USD reserve status)। (4) Surprise improvements or worsenings currency को move करते हैं। Current account deficit (trade + services + transfers) monetary policy और currency के लिए more important है।

India Trade Balance

India structurally trade deficit में है: oil, electronics, gold, capital goods import करता है; IT services, pharma, textiles, gems export करता है। Goods trade deficit 2022-23 में $266 billion था, लेकिन services surplus ~$150 billion से offset होता है। Current account deficit GDP का ~2% है, मtypically sustainable range में। Oil prices trade balance को heavily affect करते हैं - high oil = bigger deficit = weaker INR। 2008 oil crisis में INR 39 से 52 तक गया था। RBI forex reserves ($600B+) current account deficit को bridge करने में मदद करते हैं। भारतीय रुपया (INR), एक्सचेंज रेट (Exchange Rate), केंद्रीय बैंक (Central Bank) भी पढ़ें।
